Portland has close to 1000 climbing routes recorded along its cliffs making it one of the top venues on the south coast for sport rock climbing. Another attraction of Portland is the rariety of some of the plants and animals resident on the island. Portland's coastline is a designated Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is soon to become a European Special Area of Conservation (SAC)
There should be enough climbing for everyone and at all levels. Climbing grades V0 to 8b are on offer. The variety is also huge. Climbing the sea cliffs with their amazing views is truly an experience.
There are several well documented named climbs all over Portland with some fantastic names. Try Fallen Slab, Reptile Smile, Is Vic There?, Wolfgang Forever and Brief Encounter to name but few.
There are no local clubs unfortunately. However, the web provides a huge amount of information on climbing in Portland with the best resource being Rockfax.
