Portland Harbour

Portland harbour is a man made harbour enclosed on one side by Chesil Beach and on the other by a very impressive breakwater. Construction of the harbour as we see it today started all the way back to 1849. Portland Harbour is large and has been developed into a world class area for all things nautical. The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy is now based on the harbour edge and will be playing host to all the sailing and windsurfing events of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Portland Harbour has been a mecca for water sports for many years and for good reason. If you like sailing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, or diving then there are several good reasons to try out the joys that Portland Harbour offers. Wrecks for divers along with a good variety of sea life and good, clean winds for anyone that uses a sail or kite. The harbour is safe as it is enclosed and the water normally flat as the winds come from the south west more often than not.
